SNAP LOUISIANA
Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests

What We Do

Other Information

Founded in January of 2003 by victims living in the Archdiocese of New Orleans, SNAP Louisiana offers a safe, confidential, and independent place for those suffering from the pain of this traumatic childhood tragedy. In our group, victims learn that they are no longer alone; they learn coping and recovery strategies; they become empowered to break the debilitating silence in which they have lived; they are assisted in reporting their abuse to the proper authorities; and they actively work to protect others at risk.

The SNAP organization has a threefold purpose: 1) to provide self-help support to survivors; 2) to share resources and information among survivors; 3) to organize for political action to challenge the institutional church to better deal with the problem with its priests' sexual misconduct. One may join for one, two, or all three reasons. Sometimes healing comes simply from listening. It is up to the individual how he or she wishes to participate.
